Today I am reflecting on a simple concept; one that can get ignored while our ego and lack of humility fog our perception… it’s the power of community.
When Sam first reached out to me last Fall for the podcast, I really had no idea what the upcoming year would bring me… just because of him; because of one connection and a shared interest in helping others my world completely opened up!
I always thought this weight loss gig was a journey of one. Well, I’m able to sit here today and tell you I was completely wrong. While I have often times said this journey can be lonely, I have definitely not been alone. Before Sam’s message to me 16 months ago, I had no idea such a strong group of weight loss rebels and survivors existed. I didn’t know I could find comfort in complete strangers through keystrokes of my laptop and some friendly faces through video chats. I didn’t know I would have the opportunity to reach out to so many success stories, introduce myself and Sam in hopes they would have the courage and interest to share their lives with us. I didn’t know I would be meeting a reality TV star and assist in getting her signed up for an International Conference I would be helping to coordinate. I didn’t know any of this because I thought I had to do this on my own.
Have you tried to take your first step towards a healthier you to only find yourself convinced the couch needed you more than your treadmill? Have you prepped your food for tomorrow, but find yourself overwhelmingly drawn to your old pals found in the drive thru?
Well, look no further.
If you’re having a shit day and need some perspective, drop us a line. If you’re struggling with convincing yourself you deserve this, reach out. If you know you want to but don’t know how to make the first step, then message us. I have met the greatest people in the world through this community and with Sam’s efforts, our own Village is growing by the week. I realize it does take a village to make change and I am so incredibly grateful for all the wonderful souls I can call my friends.
I don’t have a lot of people around me that I can talk to about my story – I just don’t. I have never received the ‘support’ I thought I was looking for from my family. My friends are all going through their own battles. But this community of like minded people has helped me keep in the game, without it being just about me. It’s about us. As a whole; learning and growing every day in being honest and truthful about this very hard, and deserving path to health and wellness.
What are you doing to get the support you need?
Where are you finding your village?
Do you need our hand to help you for your first step?
Hope to see you again, soon and anytime, just let us know if you need us.
