I was the fat kid. My elementary through early high school years were dark times. I was ridiculed, bullied, and spent most of my time huddled up with books, television, or food. In my late teens, I made major changes to my attitude and lifestyle, and subsequently got into the best shape of my life.
As an adult, I’ve also faced dark times – the sudden loss of lifelong friends & family, the loss of my father to bone cancer, a painful divorce – and again, I struggled to keep my self-esteem and lifestyle habits in check. Between 2007 and 2009, I lost 55 pounds for the second time in my life.
Was it easy? No. Did I have setbacks? You bet. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
I’m now in my mid-thirties, a college graduate, budding entrepreneur, father to a rambunctious one-year-old, and I still bear the invisible scars of growing up overweight. This colors my perspective in interesting ways, and I like to believe it makes me a sensitive, empathetic, and positive force in the lives of others. At least that’s the life purpose I’ve chosen.
When I’m not spending time with my family or volunteering in my community, I’m working on making Tips Of The Scale a positive force in your life as well. I’m glad you’re here.
