Leaving Your Shell Behind

I have written on this topic before, during a period of time when I felt stuck, without a real identity, and thus needed to get my thoughts out for no other reason but to purge.

Under my blog, it was entitled Your Reinvention.  And I am choosing not to re-visit this piece as a bit of an experiment on my own journey.  I am curious to see how my perspective and outlook on this topic has changed, so, like you, I will click on it after to read my old words and do a little juxtaposing…

I Googled “when a snail leaves its shell” – I received an enormous amount of articles, Yahoo Questions and general metaphysical answers to this.  I read that it is impossible for a snail to lose it’s shell because without it, the creature would die.  I read that all shelled morsels need to eventually move on and live in something bigger, so they leave their old to find a new.

I have to be honest, I like both answers as the two support my topic of today’s Nudge – leaving your shell behind.

Consuming Failure.

“To be a Philosopher is not merely to have subtle thoughts nor even to found a school… it is to solve some of the problems of life, not just theortetically, but practically.” -Henry David Thoreau Last week we spoke about Stoicism as an introduction and talked about preparing for failure. Today is where the rubber … Read more

Motivation Monday: Laying the Blame

Motivation Monday! Where can we lay the blame? That’s the theme for the day. Damn, I didn’t hit a personal record today. Maybe it’s because it was cold. I didn’t have a spotter. The right song wasn’t playing.  It’s the Vernal Equinox, I can’t do legs today! What do all these excuses have in common? We are … Read more

Recipes of the Scale! Easy Roasted Butternut Squash

When I was a kid, we would have the traditional roast beef dinner with roasted parsnips, carrots and onions.  My mom would do the Yorkshire Pudding as well and homemade gravy. Without fail, I would be forced to eat one lonely parsnip and one darkened carrot, often times these being the last two morsoles on my plate.  I hated them.  But now, I appreciate what happens to those lovely root veggies when roasted!

I love roasting my veggies on the BBQ, but can easily throw them on a tray on a low heat as I putter around the house or go out and grab the kids from school.

Maggie shares a simple, yet wondrous version of roasted butternut squash – I challenge you to switch out with buttercup squash.  A lovely and meaty alternative to this simple treasure!

Thanks again, Maggie!

Pain Towards Change

I have had the opportunity to travel over the last few weeks – I did a lot of this about five years ago and it has been a while since I rolled up my clothes in long, cylinder forms to shove in my carry on; bought those mini (and now way overpriced) travel sized toiletries; … Read more

Drop Weight Like a Stoic

Come with me to a tough place.

You’ve carefully crafted a plan for success at something. Maybe you planned the perfect date with your sweetheart. The picnic basket is packed. The car is waxed. The drinks are chilled and you have your favorite book of poetry or your favorite Ginuwine record cued up (the only two sources of entertainment appropriate to a romantic picnic). You pick him or her up and she looks perfect. You’re wearing your favorite cologne and you even remembered deodorant. The only thing fresher than your clothes is your breath thanks to 15 minutes of tooth brushing and mouth washing. This date will be perfect.

You get in the car and it starts to rain. All your plans are for naught. The date, the evening and even Ginuwine’s Pony can’t make the torrential downpour get better.

You’ve failed. We’ve all been there.

When it comes to our weight loss, we almost always begin with the best of intentions and the brightest of goals. And we’re on point. Until we fail.

Motivation Monday: Relaxation

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all are doing well. today I would like to talk to you about relaxation. It might be a little controversial. Recipes of the Scale! Quinoa Stuffed Peppers with Quail Eggs (Vegetarian)

I was at a Columbian coffee spot that is a great little gem down at the harbour about five minutes from my house.  The owner is legit and bakes all her goodies with Quinoa.  She even sells a Quinoa shake mix she swears by and offers a scoop full in her shakes and coffee-concoctions. This … Read more

Finding the Love Affair in Your Weight Loss Process

Remember what it was like to be a kid?  Like, really remember?  When you would literally run every where for no other reason than getting to your destination faster than walking would logically get you there (and maybe to feel your hair blow in the wind).

kidsrun

This, in kids, is passion; it’s the fire in their belly that pushes them to continue running, when all us adults want to do is walk at a snail’s pace.
