The Fear of Being Regular

Yesterday, Tim spoke about the 3 things you should do to maintain your weight loss.  His perspective captured what may happen when we hit our ‘goal’, whether a size, a number on that fickle scale, or attaining a fitness triumph (monkey bars for me!).  I had another post ready to go for this morning, but reading Tim’s words moved me to reflect a bit more on my own experiences and post something I shared on my personal blog this week about Fear.

Life in general has labelled “normal” sized people as regular.  “Oh, are you looking for regular size or plus?”.  The power of words is something that I have always been interested in and as I have moved from the Plus Size stores to the “Normal” Size stores, I have been more aware of the terms themselves then ever before.  Normal and Regular, in my opinion, sound kinda boring, but in reality is what most of us are striving for as we nip and tuck our pants to a smaller and healthier waist line.

The 3 Things You Should Do for Maintenance

You’re officially an after picture. You’ve bled, sweat and cried. You have consumed more broccoli than you care to admit and you’ve hit the goal– whether that’s a weight, a waist size, you got the girl/boy or some other goal.

This is the moment you’ve been dreaming of. Now what? What do you believe about weight maintenance?

Let’s get the diagnosis out here right away: the odds are stacked against us. According to Gary Foster, Ph.D., clinical director of the Weight and Eating Disorders Program at the University of Pennsylvania, almost 65% of dieters return to their pre-diet weight within 3 years. Statistics for “crash diets” are even more abysmal. But you aren’t a statistic. Just like you took control when you decided to lose weight, maintenance is entirely in your control. Today we’re going to explore what you need to do maintain all that work you put in.

Motivation Monday: A Deep Breath

Motivation Monday people, I sincerely hope you had a great weekend. So, today I want to talk about being too hard on yourself.

We are all on a journey, and we all have our own unique set of struggles. Some it might be a physical one, others it might be mental. Or it could be a combination of them both. And when our struggles impede progress, we can be very hard on ourselves.

All About the Bass

I have been hooked on “All About the Bass” by Meghan Trainor for about three weeks. It was my almost-nine-year old daughter who introduced me to this catchy song, and I recently watched the video (spoiler alert – see bottom of post). It wasn’t until last week (while getting back into my lifting program) that I finally heard the lyrics. I am terrible at hearing lyrics (terrible!). It has always been a struggle for me. I first fall in the love with the music, or beat, or harmony, or melody… or whatever. It is usually after a song captures me that I listen to what the message is.

This one… I like.

KISS

Last week, I had the absolute gall to suggest that you really didn’t need to know anything before you started your weight loss journey. Literally seconds after hitting publish, I received an email from someone asking what to eat to lose weight. I replied poultry or fish and vegetables with every meal and occasional tubers. … Read more

Motivation Monday: Taking Time

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a great weekend, filled with fun. Now, I have some sad news, personally. On this past Saturday, I hurt myself lifting weights, and I will be taking it easy for a little bit, making sure that I heal well and efficiently. So, what does this have to do with Motivation? Well, in my opinion, you have two options when an obstacle like this comes your way. You can either let it totally derail you, or you could mitigate any potential issues you might have.
