Happy Motivation Monday everyone! Today I am going to finish up my “Your Life as an RPG” series. For any new readers, please check out part 1 and part 2 if you want some background on our journey so far.
So last we left our heroes, they picked out their race (in our lives, our race is determined for us), picked out there class, but now they want to customize it. Let’s take something simple, let’s say our class, what we want to be defined as, is a runner. In RPGs, you are really able to customize whatever your class is. If you are playing as a “fighter” there are multiple different paths you can choose from. You can be a big burly guy in heavy armor who can take hits and shrug them off, or you can be a nimble guy who dodges a lot of attacks and doesn’t wear a ton of armor, or a thousand little variations between those two extremes.
So we chose runner, but now we need to decide WHAT TYPE of runner. Do you want to be a long distance runner, do you want to be a sprinter, or a trail runner, or a parkour professional? You need to find the variation you want to be, and aim for that.
Ok, after over 1200 words, what is the point I was trying to make? Firstly, you need to figure out your strengths and weaknesses. Secondly, you need to figure out an overall goal, something that will help narrow down what you want to focus on. Finally, figure out a long term goal, something that will make you happy and really help you define you, because you are unique.
Let’s use me as an example. My strengths are good leg muscles, and I recover relatively quickly no matter how hard I push myself. My weaknesses are my lower back, and a
relatively weak upper body. My goal, be a “fighter,” be strong. But I don’t want to sacrifice speed, and I want to keep my good running ability. What do I do then? I lift weights 6 days a week, focusing on a different muscle group every day, and hitting the different parts of the upper body twice a week to help bring them up to par. I also run at least a mile every day, and run a 5k once a week to keep my running ability up.
I took several different methodologies to help craft a program that works for me and matches my uniqueness. You are just as unique. If you aren’t liking a program, modify it. Do what makes you happy and brings you closer to your goals.
Thank you. And as always, level up, stay motivated, and continue to be awesome.
