I have never lived in a climate that doesn’t experience the vast array of seasons as Ontario does. Summer can be as hot as Savannah, Winters as cold as Minnesota, and the Spring and Fall offering some of the best colours the eye can enjoy. With that, Fall/Autumn here is always speckled with everything Pumpkin and Apple. So, get ready to sample some of the best recipes of the Fall.
Today’s is one of my all-time favourites, tested by our resident recipe blogger and fellow scale warrior, Maggie. Enjoy!

Guiltless Apple Crisp – inspired and adapted from the instagram account @elle_bfitbody, but modified to be even healthier, and gluten free.
Filling:
2 large crisp apples (aprox. 500 grams)
1 lemon, juiced
2 Tbsp sugar free maple syrup
1/2 Tbsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp ginger
Crumble Topping:
2 T GF rolled oats
2 T GF oat flour (can substitute with all purpose!)
28 grams (1 Oz) almonds, chopped
1 1/2 Tbsp granulated splenda or other granulated for baking zero-calorie sweetener
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 Tbsp butter or coconut oil
1/2 Tbsp nonfat plain greek yogurt
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Quarter your apples and core, then slice thinly. In a large mixing bowl, combine the apples with the rest of the ingredients for your filling, and set aside. In a smaller bowl, combine the rolled oats, oat flour, almonds, splenda, and cinnamon, and mix thoroughly. Melt your butter in the microwave (about 15 seconds on high) and drizzle into your dry crumble ingredients. Add the greek yogurt, and with a fork – no other cutlery is as good! – combine it all until it forms the desired crumbly texture.
Pour your apples into a baking dish that has been sprayed with a zero-calorie cooking spray – most ‘baking sprays’ have flour in them. Crumble the topping on top of your apples, and pop that baby in the oven for 35-40 minutes. The smell will tempt you to eat it right away, but let it cool for at least half an hour! Top with a spoonful of nonfat Chobani (or light ice cream!) for an even more decadent treat.
The best part? The whole apple crisp is only 640 calories, and it easily splits into four big portions, which makes your desert only 160 calories! No guilt, even if you do put some ice cream on top. Enjoy!
