Michael Kalchman Side PhotoMilestones In The Past Month

Michael continues to improve his running performance in preparation for a 10K that, as of the time of this interview, is 40 days away.

He is currently able to run for 40 minutes without stopping! This is a personal best he intends to improve.

Challenges In The Past Month

Michael admits he has full awareness of indulging on certain occasions, and is determined not to feel deprived. He knows himself well, and feels that if he restricts his food choices too much, he will be unable to stick to his eating plan.

This has been a real challenge for Michael. He shares how, when he sits down for a cheat meal, “it’s almost like I can’t stop.”

“I was like a farm animal at a trough.”

So far, Michael says his attitude has been to be aware of what’s happening, but to “go with it,” which leads into the next section.

Discoveries & Realizations

Michael shares his recent realization that emotional eating has played a bigger part in his weight history than he originally understood.

“If I take food in, the food can’t say No, and so I feel good. So if I keep giving myself something that feels good… That’s a positive feedback loop.”

He is working to be more aware of this and develop a more “emotionally healthy relationship with food.” His primary focus for now is this growing awareness, and continuing to be active.

“I haven’t felt this strong or this healthy… and it’s something I can maintain.”

Happening Over The Next Month

  • Eating more vegetables
  • Doing the right thing at an upcoming party where there will be cake
