The End is the Beginning

Good morning everyone! As of last week, the amazing Tinier Tim has decided to take a small break as a guest writer here at Tips of the Scale, and I will be writing for him in the interim. I have been, up until today, been writing a short post every Monday to keep you all out there in weight loss land motivated.

I assume it will say something like this
I assume it will say something like this

But I am foregoing the Pulitzer Prize winning (I assume. I mean, the trophy has GOT to be in the mail by now, right?) Motivation Monday posts to write these.

Recipe of the Scale! Thai Turkey Lettuce Wraps

This may seem a bit ‘off season’, especially here in Toronto with the temperature hovering around single digits, but it is still one of my favourites that got me through a lot of tough days when all I wanted was Thai takeout! I would often times make this once a week when I worked from … Read more

Sympathy for the Devil

“If you don’t deal with your demons, they will deal with you, and it’s gonna hurt.” -Nikki Sixx Truth time, my ToTS lovelies: It still hurts, and confronting your demons might hurt worse in the short term than ignoring them. You have to dance with your demons in order to wrest control back, and unfortunately … Read more

TinierTim, Signing Off.

A little over 6 months ago, I brought an idea for a team blog to Adina. I was struggling to post consistently to my own personal blog and I thought joining a team could provide me with two things: 1) Steady stream of posts from like minded but different people creating an entertaining variety. 2) … Read more

Motivation Monday: Facing Your Demons

Happy Motivation Monday everyone! I’m writing this article after a day trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, to go back to where my journey started. Two years ago, I went on a “hike” (a really quite easy one) in a place called The Flume in Franconia Notch. Maggie and I were both severely overweight. We hiked about 1/4 of it (about a half a mile), then turned around and left. We were winded, tired, and out of shape. This, as I described in my interview with Sam 1 year ago, was my turning point. I did this hike so often as a young child, and then failed as an adult.

Recipe of the Scale! Chocolate Pumpkin Pro-Cakes

It’s Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and I have never been a super-big fan of pumpkin pie.  I do love pumpkin everything else though.  With our two turkey dinners behind us as of this evening, I am skipping desserts and will enjoy this wonderful breakfast selection for tomorrow’s day at home with my family.  No traveling, no getting dressed – just enjoying these awesome protein cakes for brekkie and some Starbucks coffee with Maple Syrup!

Thanks, Maggie, for being amazing and sharing.

Happy Thanksgiving, Canucks!

The Land of What Ifs…

I Googled what “LaLa Land” means so I wouldn’t enter this post under any misconception.  It means the following: n. can refer either to Los Angeles (in which case its etymology is influenced by the common initialism for that city), or to a state of being out of touch with reality—and sometimes to both simultaneously … Read more

It’s a Diet, Not a Marriage

Have you ever had a cheat meal that turned into a cheat year? The only thing I’ve failed more at than diets is, well, nothing. Like many obese people, I’ve struggled with my weight for my entire adolescent and adult life. I’ve tried every diet you can think of: Shake based, starvation, low carb, low-fat, … Read more

Motivation Monday: High Score!

Motivation Monday! Honestly, kind of struggling to think of a post today to talk about, but maybe that’s a perfect thing to talk about. We all have those struggles in Life, times when we don’t feel like we have the right words, the right stuff, to persevere. But honestly, that’s when we prove our mettle in … Read more
